Introduction
This website is a guide to the history of the name Beard in the county of Essex, England, and is intended as a resource for all those who have an interest in or connection to the name. This is an ongoing piece of research and there will be regular updates.
For want of a better labelling system, I have named each family group after the oldest known ancestor or their initial geographical location. To obtain a summary regarding any particular Beard family group, click on one of the links on the left under "Essex Beard Families" (more of these will become live over the next few weeks). Each summary is accompanied by a document which explores that family's history in more detail; you will need Acrobat to read these.
The name Beard is quite common in Essex - in 2001 for example, the telephone directory showed 193 Beard households, which may equate to perhaps 600+ individuals. The aim of this research is to find a single common ancestor or ancestors. This is a huge undertaking which probably will never reach a (satisfactory) conclusion. If you are able to help me on my way with information that you have, I'd be glad to hear from you!
