John of Great Braxted, 1766 to 1901

This family issues from Great Braxted, moves to Great Totham and then splinters into three fragments; one group who remain in Great Totham but seem ultimately to gravitate towards London; a second group who move to Kent; and a third group who emigrate to Victoria, Australia. The whole family is the subject of considerable work by Nathan Watkins and I don’t attempt to reproduce the Australian branch of the tree here; instead his website makes good reading:

Beards of Victoria, Australia, 1855 to date

Family lore has it that this family were actually anglicized French "Bayards" who escaped the French revolution c.1789. There's no documentray proof of this but its an interesting story and another possible origin of the Beard name in Essex
